ALS, 1903 February 8, to Lizzie (?), Tefferts Place.

Folger, industrialist, philanthropist and Shakespearean scholar writes to "Lizzie" advising her on rare book references. On his speciality he writes "Shakespeariana is costly rather than rare. It has seemd to me that Shakespeare was always popular, so many copies of his books having survived. If one has a long purse and potential he can get together a good Shakespeare library." He discusses collecting trends over the last 100 years and concludes "I know considerable about Shakespeariana, a little about the literature contemporaneous with Shakespeare and nothing about anything else."
